I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

Ivy is truly a great plant and one of the most ecologically valuable plants you can have in your garden. I have a large, old ivy hedge and am very impressed with it. It is the last plant to bloom in autumn (October) and is then full of insects. Just about everything visits it – flies, bees, bumblebees, butterflies.

In spring, it is the first plant to bear fruit – the berries are ripe in March and provide the first fresh food source for birds.

We have an unattractive wall situated on the boundary. It belongs to the neighbor. On their side, it is covered with ivy, and not much is happening there. Although there are different varieties. Who knows which strain it is.

Let's see what we can plant there. It should become nicely covered quite soon.

Ivy only blooms when it is very old, usually at 15-20 years. Ours blooms and produces fruit as well. Otherwise, I find ivy quite annoying because it spreads like crazy and I am allergic to it. We only let it grow on the old maple because it is useful for insects there, but everywhere else we control it.

It is older. It is almost 40 years old. Neglected, never watered, and barely any sunlight.

What kind of "design features" do you have in your garden?

Like a pond, herb spiral, any containers, or decorative stakes?
After 1.5 years, we have finally landscaped the front garden, but it feels too bare to me. Super modern isn’t really my style, but too many decorative items seem kitschy and overwhelming.

Or do you mainly focus on plants for your design?

Maybe you have some photos?

The old pump is next to our pond but no longer works; it’s basically just decoration. I really like it, though. The planting looked better last year.

As a small highlight, we also have an old tree root at the entrance to the property that I decorate a bit. Unfortunately, I don’t have a recent picture right now. I’ll take one when the weather is nice.

I have a question about wall planting (concrete wall of parking area, see photo). The wall faces west-southwest and receives full sun from mid-morning until early afternoon, after which the wall will shade the plant. Do you have any recommendations or experiences?

The plant should be perennial, and it would be ideal if two plants placed in the lawn between the fence posts would be enough to cover the entire surface. Would climbing roses be suitable for this? Wisteria and ivy are visually excluded...

By the way, the crossbar is the beginning of the trellis; the weather prevented us from continuing work on it yesterday...
