I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

Bamboo doesn’t like too much sun, especially in winter.
For privacy screens, there are also planted walls. Evergreen is classic, with ivy being the most common, and in pots it can’t cause much trouble. These privacy walls are available ready-made for purchase, so you don’t have to wait for the privacy screen to grow.
For example, you can check out Garten Bronder, who also offers these online with various plants (although not all keep their leaves through the winter).
We have considered this as well. I think it looks quite nice, doesn’t require much depth, and you can even buy plant containers with wheels, so you can move the privacy walls wherever you need them.

No matter what you plant, it will require maintenance – watering, cleaning, occasional weather protection...
I also really like bamboo.

It’s amazing what is already growing and blooming elsewhere 😳
Here, the first buds and leaves are just starting to show on the shrubs. As for flowers—apart from those that were planted as whole plants and managed to survive our weather—there’s little to speak of.
Some time ago, my wife sowed a “wildflower meadow”—a narrow strip next to our terrace. So far, all you can see is just a few millimeters of an undefined green “something” 🙄 You can spot it in the picture to the right of the table. The photo was taken yesterday evening. She is also bravely trying her hand at a herb bed, visible in the picture to the left of the table.

We recently visited a garden center to inquire about ground covers and such. We need something really winter-hardy, preferably suitable for permafrost soils. One topic was “Sedum” (also known as “stonecrop” or “fat hen”). We were advised to first remove the wood chips and improve the soil with a so-called soil activator. Then, to plant a few ground covers per square meter and hope they thrive.
Also, for the first time since moving in January 2020, I mowed the lawn 😀 For our lawn area, I got the Bosch CityMower 18.

The little guy had quite a bit to do but did a good job. Since I now intend to regularly take care of the lawn, the grass shouldn’t grow quite as tall anymore. If the mower eventually gives out, I will probably opt for a somewhat larger model.

That brings me to my question: Is there a grass shear available that uses the same 18V battery as the mower? So far, I haven’t found anything. Does anyone have experience with this?
