I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

The worst part, aside from the coronavirus situation, is the thoughtlessness.

The carrots are the second course.

It’s awful. I find it terrible what these people are doing to their children.

Here, the Black Forest High Road is closed, and it was announced well in advance. You’d think people were living under a rock and unaware of the measures being taken.

They load their children into the car, drive to the ski resort, only to spend hours stuck in traffic before turning back. Crazy.

Here is the trellis, by the way:

My flagpole project is progressing. The shipping company has scheduled delivery for tomorrow. So, we have now dug the foundation hole. It measures 50 x 50 x 80 cm (20 x 20 x 31.5 inches). The Fiskars earth auger was very helpful—definitely recommend purchasing one.

Question: I now need screed concrete for this hole. According to what I found online, 30 kg (66 lbs) of screed concrete mix yields about 15 liters (0.5 cubic feet) of concrete slurry. The hole holds around 200 liters (7 cubic feet). That would require 13-14 bags of concrete mix. This seems like a lot to me. Am I misunderstanding something or is this correct? Please clarify. @Nordlys that sounds about right, although I often added some stones when I didn’t have enough.

@Wolkensieben, we’ve just been lucky—since Christmas we’ve had continuous snow, my 4-year-old loves it, and we spend 2-3 hours outside every day plus three night hikes already. As parents, you want to offer something to your child, especially since nothing else is really possible right now… after an hour of Tiptoi books, watercolor painting, and so on, they need a change of scenery. By now, our child has been at home again for over a month. She has only been to kindergarten for four months since March, since my wife is on parental leave at home.

I think I would try it too, since with Corona you can keep your distance and fresh air doesn’t hurt.

If I trust Google, 30 kg of screed concrete mixes to 15 liters (4 gallons) of wet concrete. The hole holds about 200 liters (53 gallons). That would be 13-14 bags of concrete. Seems like a lot to me. Am I mistaken or is that correct? Please clarify.

Sounds realistic to me. It always depends on the material you use, the water content, and how much aggregate or gravel you mix in. Why do you want to use screed concrete? Mixing it yourself is quick and economical.

First, check the manufacturer’s instructions for your screed concrete mix. Usually, there are specifications for each product. But the hole is quite large, so it will definitely take a fair amount of material. Maybe consider filling some of it with stones.
