I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

Dandelion is a valuable native plant. Enjoy it, and at the same time consider it a guerrilla action against monotonous lawns. Some people might not like it. On the other hand, many of those same people claim the right to turn their own land into ecological deserts while expecting everyone else to accept their contribution to biodiversity loss...Thank you. Especially since I am only thinking of a small circular bed (about 1m (3 feet) in diameter), possibly sheltered from the wind to prevent the seeds from spreading too far. Maybe I will find a compromise. When dandelions bloom over a larger area, they are beautiful to look at; later they turn into seed heads, which bring me a lot of joy because of their transparency and lightness. Otherwise, they are just green, like most plants. I am convinced that if dandelions were rarer and had to be bought from a florist, they would be highly appreciated because of their unique character. I think if you use dandelions as table decorations for a barbecue, you don’t need much else—their presence is that striking.

At my sister’s place, they grow through the patio stones and are regularly used fresh in salads during summer barbecues (or at other times as well).M

When dandelions bloom over a larger area, they look beautiful; afterwards, they turn into seed heads, which at least I find very enjoyable because of their transparency and lightness. Otherwise, they’re green, just like most plants. I’m convinced that if they were rarer and had to be bought from a florist, their unique characteristics would be highly appreciated. I think when used as a decorative element on a barbecue table, dandelions don’t need much else because they’re so expressive. Have you ever picked one? They have a rather unpleasant sap that sticks to your hands and is hard to remove. It also stains fabric, by the way. And the flowers wilt very quickly once picked.

Yes, I have picked many. Behind our previous house, there was a meadow of about 350 square meters (approximately 3,770 square feet), which looked breathtakingly beautiful during the dandelion’s blooming period... but of course, that’s a matter of personal taste. However, I’ve come to understand that I might have to give up on my wish if I can’t find a solution that respects the neighbors.

neighbor-friendly solutionYou could start an annual dandelion-blowing contest for children.Issues with neighbors over dandelions would be rather ridiculous – but of course, I don’t know the level of “righteous narrow-mindedness” in your neighborhood or the “petty potential for unrest” that could arise from it. There have even been disputes over a pea shrub before. So if conflicts are likely, it might be worth considering not planting dandelions, since I wouldn’t want to deal with ongoing tensions or unnecessary contact with such people.
