I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

Last year, the container tomatoes were great, but this year only one variety.
This year, one tomato variety in my garden also split and rotted on the vine, no matter how ripe it was. Next year, I’ll try the old varieties from a colleague. It also depended on the variety here. I grow old tomato varieties, and we neighbors always swap seedlings. Unfortunately, I don’t know which varieties they were (like never looking a gift horse in the mouth). Last year, seeds were completely sold out anyway.
I’ve had a favorite variety for years, a small yellow pear-shaped tomato. It’s the first to produce and keeps going until the end. Super tasty and perfect for kids.
I fertilized the container with sheep wool and humus pellets. Maybe it was too little or too much, I’m not sure.

An old lady said it’s due to the combination of heat and rain. What rain? Here in the deep south, there was far too little to almost none. It was awful.
In spring, it was bone dry, then it often felt like I was just annoying people, so not much happened. Although that can be deceiving. Due to the heat, what is usually considered a small amount for us was not enough. But the tomatoes were wet, then there was the lens effect from the drops, and it got really hot again.
Overall, I watered less than in 2019 or 2018.

Tomatoes should be watered by hand anyway, since they really don’t like standing in the rain. Or am I mixing things up? (I clearly lack a green thumb) There are both resistant outdoor varieties and old varieties that do not need to be grown under cover.
It also happened to us with the covered tomatoes.
