ᐅ Garden fence: on which side should the fence posts be placed?

Hello,

We will be purchasing the garden fence together with our neighbors for our new build and have it installed along the property boundary.

We will have a welded wire mesh fence installed.

The fence panels will be placed exactly on the boundary line.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of having the fence posts installed on your own side versus on the neighbor’s side?

The difference is about 6cm (2.5 inches). So, it’s negligible.

Disadvantage: it doesn’t look as clean. With your arrangement, there is more space loss (which, as others have mentioned, is limited).
Advantage: you might be able to attach something else to the posts.

Posts on "my" side at least give me the feeling that it is "my" fence and that I am showing the boundary to my neighbor. I would prefer it that way.

If they are going to install a hedge anyway, then it should be on the side facing the neighbors,

And if they already have a hedge, why add privacy screening strips?
