Hello everyone,

We had to orient our garage to the south and have now learned that dark colors might cause issues here.

Have you had any experience with this?

Sections not too large

Does that mean not using L-shaped stiffeners, or are you referring to the width?

The stiffening profiles were included by default in our offer. However, I’m not sure if they are sufficient.

Yes, I would avoid sections that are exactly 52cm (20.5 inches) wide. It is better to use narrower ones, each with its own stiffening profile for reinforcement.

May I ask a simple question? What exactly is meant by a stiffening profile? Where is it installed?

On the inside of the gate, a capping profile is screwed across as much of the section width as possible.

Thanks for the information, then we should probably insist on the hat profiles, although there’s one thing I don’t understand, since I’ve never seen it or have experience:

Does the slat bend inward and outward, or only outward?

So far, I always understood that the outer sheet metal bends, so what’s the purpose of hat profiles on the inside?

Slat construction (cross-section):
Outside steel, foam core, inside steel

Then the hat profile is only attached on the inside, right? Or are you referring to a single-wall sectional door?

I saw a so-called “Silkgrain” surface in the Hörmann catalog, which uses thicker steel sheet than the standard one.
Does anyone have experience with this on a south-facing garage, especially regarding bending? Is it worth it?

There has to be a secure mechanical connection between the outer and inner profile half-shells; otherwise, the outer shell would practically lift off the flange if the inner shell doesn’t follow. The hat profile is only useful if it can indirectly transfer forces to the outer shell.

Perhaps a new generation of panels with insulation layers featuring a cryogel function will be available soon (or the night-gray roller shutter trend will pass).
