We seeded the lawn 10 days ago (fall or spring wasn’t an option, as I didn’t want to chase the company multiple times or let the weeds take over). In any case, we are watering regularly whenever it doesn’t rain, and you can already see some green. Patience is not really my strong suit right now—I’m worried about the gaps so far (of course, I hope it looks better in another 10 days and becomes denser through mowing and branching out).
Anyway: when would you recommend overseeding? Before the first mowing? Or maybe only in the fall or next spring, when it’s cooler and requires less watering?

Knallkörper19 Jul 2018 15:27It’s possible that some areas no longer have any seed left, as it often gets washed away by heavy rain. As long as the seed is still there, I would wait another 3 days; after that, not much will happen. That’s right, you should avoid walking on the area if possible. Newly germinated grass is very sensitive. I hadn’t considered that there are larger lawns than mine, which I can always reseed by hand from the edges 😉 But I would wait with the first mowing until the last seeds have germinated, plus an additional 3 days. Then water the area and reseed any remaining gaps.
Forget it, nothing will work starting from the edge. The strip behind the house is 3-4 m (10-13 feet) wide and 25 m (82 feet) long ;-D
Online, I found that sports turf should be about 7.5 cm (3 inches) high before the first mowing. I'm waiting for that now, maybe something will still happen. Then we’ll see how much weed grows and whether we dare to wait until autumn or start overseeding right away.

Mine is lush green and very healthy, but you do need to water about 1m³ (35 cubic feet) per day. The day before yesterday, I fertilized again because at these temperatures, the metabolism naturally increases.

Mine is a deep green and very lively, of course you need to run about 1m³ (35 cubic feet) per day. The day before yesterday I fertilized again because at these temperatures metabolism naturally increases. Yes, we missed that. So did all the neighbors 😉 If you fertilize, then 1.5–2. Otherwise, it burns from inside?
