Hello,

I registered here with my question and hope someone might have an idea for my problem 🙂
In our new build, the kitchen has been installed. At the start of the kitchen unit run, a side panel (2.5cm (1 inch) thick) was installed. Following this are base cabinets in widths of 90cm (35 inches), 60cm (24 inches), and 90cm (35 inches) (with the cooktop). Above are wall cabinets measuring 90cm (35 inches), 60cm (24 inches), and the range hood. The countertop slightly overhangs the side panel. The backsplash was cut to the length of the countertop, so on the left side of the tall cabinets there is now a "gap" because the backsplash begins before the wall cabinets start.

Kitchen with light green wall, white wall cabinets, wooden countertop, range hood, and red bottle.

As a possible solution, it was suggested to add a side panel at the top as well (although it is actually thicker than 2.5cm (1 inch)) or to offset the wall cabinets from the base cabinets. I don’t find either solution visually appealing. Does anyone happen to have another idea?

Simply attach a narrow strip of the wood-colored panel. Most likely, even a painted color strip in a similar brown shade will visually soften the issue.

Who plans something like this? Any kitchen showroom would have made the upper cabinet this long so that both end up being the same length, right?

Tear it all out!
No, honestly: no matter how this could have been done or should have been done… what’s actually bothering you?
It’s true that the upper and lower cabinets are aligned vertically.
If the countertop is planned to be larger or overhanging, you have the choice: either align the backsplash with the countertop or with the upper cabinets. If you choose the latter, there would also be complaints…
As it is now, it’s not really objectionable… it might even fit with an overhanging countertop (which isn’t common nowadays, except at the front).

P.S. When discussing alignments, it would be helpful to see the entire alignment.

Here, I “painted” a brown stripe on the wall… as you can see, it’s hardly noticeable anymore 😉

Great, thanks a lot for your effort. Now it will either be an additional piece of countertop or just painted brown. In my opinion, it’s less noticeable than if it had stayed white.

Why exactly things went wrong there, I have no idea, it just is how it is now.
