Hello everyone,
we are currently building a semi-detached house through a property developer. We would like to have our gallery railing made of glass. However, the additional cost from the stair builder for this is extremely high. From our own research, there are numerous suppliers online who manufacture these railings at a more affordable price. Does anyone have experience with how complicated the self-installation is, or can provide tips on which trades to contact for the installation? It might be relevant to know that we have underfloor heating. I would really appreciate your feedback.

Aluminum base profiles with general building approval (abP) are available for about 165€/m (50€/ft). These are usually installed using M12 anchor bolts. With some DIY skills, you can do this yourself.

Anchor bolts of M12 are placed every 250mm (10 inches) in the concrete, which secures the profile very well. I chose a version with an L-profile, meaning the screed is poured onto and over the profile.

Additionally, I installed a laminated safety glass (VSG) made from tempered safety glass (ESG) with a thickness of 17.52mm (0.69 inches) for about 600€ (3m x 1.1m / 9.8ft x 3.6ft). In total, my railing including the mounting hardware cost around 1150€. Depending on preference, a handrail made of stainless steel or alternatively wood can be added.

The result is a glass railing that rises directly from the floor without any visible mounting profile.

Glaziers and locksmiths quoted around 3000€ for such a railing.

So I saved about 1800€ by planning it myself and completing one day of installation.

Thank you for the responses. Our staircase company wants 1250 euros per linear meter plus VAT. We need 2.47 m (8.1 ft).
Attached is an example of what we would like.

Bright interior with modern glass balustrade on the mezzanine and staircase.

The price is definitely eye-catching.
But you also chose the most expensive version of a glass railing.

It looks pretty much the same for us. If the schedule still allows, you could try contacting a glazier.

You can't really complain about €500/m (about $540/yd) for that.

We still have just under half a year left. That should be enough.
