We visited an acquaintance today who is also a civil engineer. He told us to replace our 22° hip roof with a 22° gable roof, saying it could save around 5,000€. For a house with the charming dimensions of 11 x 8.4 m (36 x 28 feet)... is there really such a big difference in roof costs? Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks in advance, and have a nice evening!

If you are seriously considering installing photovoltaic panels or solar thermal systems on your roof, I would recommend having the appropriate conduit pipes for the photovoltaic cables and the pipes for the solar thermal system installed during the construction phase, running from the utility room up to the attic.
This doesn’t cost much and will save you a lot of money and hassle if you decide to retrofit later.
Best regards,
Dirk

Thank you, Dirk, we will probably take that into account and plan it in right away!
