We visited an acquaintance today who is also a civil engineer. He told us to replace our 22° hip roof with a 22° gable roof, saying it could save around 5,000€. For a house with the charming dimensions of 11 x 8.4 m (36 x 28 feet)... is there really such a big difference in roof costs? Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks in advance, and have a nice evening!

It is really stylish... however, we are currently quite annoyed by the hype around Tuscan-style houses in our area, so we are seriously considering going back to a traditional gable roof. However, it should have the same roof pitch of 22° (22°)... what do you think?

That’s not necessarily our taste either, but if people like it, why not.
However, you should consider the orientation of the gable roof if you plan to install a photovoltaic system or solar thermal panels.

A photovoltaic system is not planned at the moment. However, if it is considered in the future, the gable roof would even have an advantage in this regard, as the two sloping sides face north and south, providing more surface area on the south side. Thank you for the tip!
