Hello everyone!

We are building a two-story house with a gable roof with a 25-degree pitch:

Two-story house with terrace, balcony windows, and silhouettes of a family in front of the entrance.

Floor plan of a 4-room apartment with bedroom, rooms 1-3, dressing room, hallway, bathroom.

Plans: Architect (Ingelheim)

Would you leave the gable completely open? This would result in a ceiling height of 4.18 m (13.7 ft) in the center of the house up to the bottom edge of the ridge beam.

Or would you install a ceiling? If so, at what height?

Do any of you have a similar attic roof and can share your experiences?

Best regards

How wide is your bedroom? How many centimeters do you have on the left and right sides of the bed?
Is this possible without any issues, or does it complicate the connections of the ceiling fixtures?

I would install a ceiling. I have seen the open gable in a few houses and it never appealed to me. I think rooms with an open gable always feel smaller compared to a standard ceiling because you only have the sloping roof inside the room. Additionally, I imagine it would be challenging to install ceiling lighting.

We have about 190cm (75 inches) knee wall height, a 20-degree roof pitch, which gives us – if I remember correctly – 370cm (146 inches) up to the ridge.
I would do it the same way again (if a flat roof is not an option anyway).
In the bathroom, we installed swivel spotlight fixtures, and in the other rooms, pendant lamps. None of this is a problem. You can always lower the ceiling later if you don’t like it.

Take a photo – it’s hard for me to imagine that.

Let's see, the topping-out ceremony is coming up soon, so you can already get a sense of things. But if anyone has photos of similar conditions (roof pitch 20-30 degrees, knee wall around 200 cm (79 inches)), I would appreciate seeing them.
