Hello everyone,
I have often wondered what typical “building mistakes” from the 2010s and 2020s will be seen as in a few decades. Would you like to speculate together?
I mean, in the 1970s, it was considered stylish and modern to cover bathroom walls with brown tiles all the way to the ceiling and combine them with sunny yellow sanitary ceramics. Back then, no one could have imagined that this would one day be regarded as unattractive.
Will vinyl flooring and laundry connections on the first floor be seen as typical but now outdated features of our time? Floor-to-ceiling windows? “Smokey eyes” (dark window tinting)? Which elements will make the next generation shake their heads and wonder about our questionable taste?

Aluminum window sills are a good point.
Before construction, I said I didn’t want any because you can hear every raindrop. When choosing windows, everyone recommended aluminum, saying they were quiet because of a great anti-vibration strip underneath. Not true. You get used to it, just like you can get used to weather noise on Velux windows. But it’s not the smartest solution; it’s just the cheapest. You’re right, they forgot to install the anti-vibration strips in our case. But I have to say, the rain sound is still manageable; sometimes you hear the drops, but it doesn’t bother me.
For me, aluminum window sills look much nicer than marble and are also more affordable.

Of course, it’s a matter of taste. Still, I would be interested to know what the majority thinks about this...

Is it possible to paint windows with aluminum cladding (not foil-covered)? I would unclip the cladding and repaint it – alternatively, you can also apply a foil, which is probably cheaper (and also possible while installed).

Marble wouldn’t be my choice either, I prefer more subtle granite. My interior window sills cost a total of 2500€ but yes, aluminum is certainly cheaper. You don’t need huge ledges just because it’s natural stone instead of aluminum. It can still look modern.
