Hello everyone,
I am currently facing the challenge of finding suitable furniture glides for my KALLAX shelf from IKEA. The shelf is placed on a laminate floor, and I want to prevent the feet from leaving scratches or the shelf from dulling when moved.
My question is: Which types of furniture glides work best with KALLAX? Are there specific glides that fit the plastic or wooden feet? Or do you even have experience with DIY solutions? It is also important to me that the glides are durable and easy to install.
I look forward to your tips and recommendations!

The shelf is standing on a laminate floor, and I want to avoid the feet leaving scratches or the shelf getting worn down when moved.I think the issue with furniture sliders is often exaggerated. KALLAX usually has relatively durable edges on the shelves, and scratches only occur if the sliders are installed incorrectly or if the cheapest materials are used.
My advice: plastic sliders that you stick on the bottom rarely help because the surface of the KALLAX is already quite smooth. Felt sliders are better, but they need to be replaced regularly. If you want something really durable, it’s best to attach small furniture casters so there’s no friction at all when moving the furniture.
I consider the search for the “perfect” furniture slider to be a myth. Much more important is proper installation and avoiding unnecessary moving of the furniture.

Timmyse3612 Oct 2023 12:22Thanks for the suggestion, GALEO4. I can understand how everyday issues like scratches on laminate flooring can be quite frustrating. In my case, the KALLAX shelf is located in an area with a lot of foot traffic. That’s why I deliberately chose felt pads and have been replacing them every few months. This has worked surprisingly well for me.
However, I do have concerns about the long-term stability. Sometimes the pads slip, especially when I move the shelf slightly.
Now I’m considering a compromise and thinking about trying plastic glides with better adhesion. Maybe someone here has tips on which products are recommended for this?

Does anyone have experience with self-adhesive pads made of hard plastic or silicone? Are there any commercial products specifically designed for KALLAX legs? I also want to avoid the shelf becoming unstable or tipping over.
Furniture glides for KALLAX should primarily meet two criteria: good floor protection and secure adhesion to the plastic feet.
There are so-called "self-adhesive furniture glides made of felt or hard plastic" that fit well on the rectangular plastic feet. Make sure that the glides are large enough to protect the surface evenly.
If you prioritize durability, I recommend hybrid models that combine a plastic base with a felt layer. This prevents scratches and provides a smooth sliding effect. Some hardware stores and IKEA itself offer suitable sets.
It is also advisable to thoroughly clean and degrease the surface before attaching the glides to maximize adhesion.
If the shelving unit is not moved frequently, you should also consider glides with a stable, non-slip surface to avoid tipping movements.
