we are currently in the process of finalizing the design for our front garden.
The right side is a bit tricky, as you can see in the pictures, there is a slope from the front door down to the right corner of the house. We would actually like to have a flower bed there, similar to the one on the left side. Now the question is, how should we retain the soil on the right? Would you build a concrete block wall? A railing would then need to be installed on top of the wall.
Things aren’t looking very ideal…
We’re a bit unsure at the moment.

If going through the bank is an option, you could also cover the light well with gabions and place some boards on top to make a bench. Neighbors have done this and it’s great for sitting while the kids play in the shared street. Not a bad idea.
The well hardly lets any light into the room downstairs anyway.
