Hello

We are currently choosing a front door for our new build.

We want one with frosted glass to let light into the hallway.

What type of glass should be installed at a minimum?

Is 6mm (1/4 inch) laminated safety glass sufficient, or should we upgrade to P4A?

We will use a triple-point automatic locking system, so the door is never locked from the inside.

If someone breaks the glass, they can press the door handle and get in.

My question is: how secure is 6mm (1/4 inch) laminated safety glass?

Is that enough?

The entire door has a burglary/security rating from RC1 to RC5.
This applies to the complete unit, including door, frame, glass, lock, latches, and installation.
I don’t think you can modify the glass.
We have a door rated RC3 with a burglary guarantee—if a thief gets through the door, you get a new door or 3,000 € (about three years ago).

If you are worried about the glass on your front door, you should secure it to the same level as all the patio doors and windows on the ground floor. You probably have those rated at RC3 – which also requires impact-resistant glass classified at P5A.

All windows on the ground floor have standard triple glazing.

So, was my assessment correct that the regular 6mm laminated safety glass bonded in place provides sufficient security?
