Hello everyone,

I have a question about the opening angle of the front door.
We have a very wide entrance, and the front door will be placed in the center, with fixed glazed side panels 1 meter (3 feet) wide on both the right and left sides.

We had actually decided on a door design where the door leaf overlaps the frame on both sides, but the opening angle in this case is only about 110° rather than 180°.

Does anyone have experience with something like this? I imagine it could be inconvenient in daily use if the door doesn’t open fully up to the wall, right? Maybe it would be better to choose a door that only overlaps the frame on one side?

I can only say that my parents-in-law have a front door that opens toward the wall at about 100° to 110°, simply because there is a radiator/wall there. It has never been an issue.

In our apartment, due to the narrow hallway (coats hanging on the wall perpendicular to the door, blocking space), the door only opens about 80°, which I find too little.

But basically, I think it depends on the individual situation. If there is no wall behind (or beside) your door, I think a door that can open fully would probably be more practical. I can imagine that in everyday use, people might accidentally try to open it past 110° (due to too much force or wind). How that affects the door's durability over time, I’m not sure...

Ours can also be fully opened, and we have a door width of over 3 meters (10 feet) – I wouldn’t want to do without that.

Anything over 90 is, in my opinion, perfectly fine and doesn’t offer any additional benefit unless you want to reach behind the door!?

Thank you all, I also think that the 180-degree option is much more practical. Our children will probably push the door open with full force quite often, which definitely wouldn’t be good.
I’m really glad I noticed this in the site plan. We weren’t informed about it beforehand, otherwise we would have been in trouble.

@BeHaElJa, I don’t understand your post?

In this case, I wouldn’t have written anything different either, especially since the wall had to be modified because of the door.
