ᐅ Front Door Monitoring with an IP Camera at the Entrance – Any Ideas?

Hello
I am currently at the start of taking over my parents’ house.
As part of this, some modernization work will be done on the house, which is over 35 years old.
For example, the intercom system.
An old Siedle Vario is installed, which will be replaced by a modern system.
However, I would like to have a camera at the front door. The Siedle system seems either too limited or too expensive to me.
So the idea is to solve this with an IP camera at the entrance (I have already researched the legal aspects) and stream the video to a tablet mounted in the hallway.
What have you installed, and how did you implement it?
Regards,
Markus

Question for everyone: has anyone installed or planned to install their doorbell system using a bus system? No, for us it's about as necessary as a third wheel... when you're at home, you can see everyone coming anyway, and if you’re not at home, it doesn’t really matter who’s ringing...
I totally agree with Alex85—just a simple doorbell and glass in the door works fine.

No, for us it’s about as necessary as a third nipple… when you’re at home, you see all visitors anyway, and if you’re not, then I don’t care who’s ringing the doorbell… Was this a conscious decision or did you forget to consider it and are now trying to justify it afterward? I’m a bit surprised, because I would have thought it’s obviously something that should be integrated, especially since a smart home is only truly smart if all trades are connected to the bus?! I’m totally with Alex85 – doorbell and glass in the door, etc. The only problem is if you have a front door without glass or with frosted glass… then all that’s left is the doorbell…
I am also installing an intercom system with a camera. We don’t have a peephole or a window. Nowadays, I think it’s quite useful to be able to see who is standing outside the door. My girlfriend is also afraid to just open the door. Of course, there are other traditional solutions for this as well.
This information will also be connected to the bus or network.

Yes, intentionally. The cables are already in place, so I can add to it anytime, but even after 6 years there has been no need.
All the trades are connected to the bus system, and the mandatory presence detection is also installed, but in my opinion an intercom system is unnecessary, so there isn’t one.
There is a doorbell, but as I mentioned before, if someone rings, you can see them, and I wouldn’t open the door when I’m not at home anyway.
If someone is around, I can see them on the security cameras if anything happens or so.
Well, you have to decide on site what you need. Every house and every entrance situation is different.
For example, Alex and I have glass in the door... so you can see what’s going on.

I would rather have a professional film applied afterward than build in fixed frosted glass. But of course, that depends on the living situation and surroundings.
Fear of opening the door? I have to admit, I can’t relate to that. I simply can’t imagine it, no matter how hard I try. That’s not something we are familiar with.

But of course, that depends on the living situation and surroundings. Sorry, that was unclear on my part—I meant glass with applied film precisely for the reason you mentioned. Frosted glass produces terrible lighting.Similar topics
