Ghost-Talker1 Nov 2017 17:46Hello
I am currently at the start of taking over my parents’ house.
As part of this, some modernization work will be done on the house, which is over 35 years old.
For example, the intercom system.
An old Siedle Vario is installed, which will be replaced by a modern system.
However, I would like to have a camera at the front door. The Siedle system seems either too limited or too expensive to me.
So the idea is to solve this with an IP camera at the entrance (I have already researched the legal aspects) and stream the video to a tablet mounted in the hallway.
What have you installed, and how did you implement it?
Regards,
Markus

Busch Welcome does not include video, as I also prefer not to be observed, so I don’t monitor others either, but it is more affordable than Siedle and also of very high quality. Another option would be Gira or Ritto.
Is there a switching device between the existing door station and the indoor unit?
Does it already operate via bus system? If so, replacing these components could be more expensive than switching to a new provider.
Catalogue prices are always higher than online prices, regardless of the supplier.
Is a 4-core cable connected to the door station? Two cores are not sufficient.

I know this is off-topic, but I have something on my mind.
Recently, even my architects asked what kind of intercom system should be planned. And I was like, "Huh? Button with a ding-dong, and that's it." They looked at me as if I were from another planet.
So my question is: Why would you need an intercom system, especially one with video, in a single-family house? Or is it mainly for gated entrances?
For me, if someone rings the doorbell, I go to the door and see who’s there. If I’m not expecting anyone and I’m feeling lazy, I sometimes just don’t do anything at all.

On the other hand, if I’m in the basement or garden and have a door opener, and it’s the kids, I don’t have to rush.
On the other hand, my wife thinks differently. If I can see him, he can also see me and might leave quickly. With a camera, I can stay incognito.
Another option: external devices can be connected, meaning you can get a call on your mobile phone while you’re out, see that it’s the delivery person, and let them in to leave the package (garage arrangement) or tell them to leave it in the driveway (pseudo-garage arrangement).

Ghost-Talker1 Nov 2017 23:23Hello.
I may have expressed myself a bit unclearly.
The intercom system was installed over 30 years ago and will remain or be replaced. The manufacturer will stay the same, as I don’t want to redo the exterior plaster.
By the way, the house is a two-family building. I find the intercom quite practical.
A camera integrated into the intercom is ruled out due to cost but also because of the location.
That’s why I prefer an external camera with a tablet or similar device.
