We are building with a general contractor and are currently selecting the specifications for the windows and doors.
Regarding the front door, our building specification includes the following:
The entrance door system will be a single-leaf door made of white PVC profiles, matching the windows, with a rebate seal, triple locking mechanism, HEWI handle, security lock, and door panel – material cost €2,000, gross manufacturer price, installed.

We have budgeted a bit more to have the exterior of the front door colored and possibly to choose aluminum instead of PVC.

So far, we have received prices for five selected PVC doors, while we are still waiting for the prices of the three requested aluminum doors. The prices range from €3,766 to €4,348, with an average just over €4,000 gross, including installation and after deducting the contractually agreed amount. Of course, the contractor still needs to deduct the installation costs, as these are charged to our general contractor. Nevertheless, the offer seems quite high to me. What do you think?
What is a reasonable price for a PVC door without any major special features?
I’m already dreading the prices for the aluminum doors.

We received our wooden front door the day before yesterday, and we are very satisfied because we were able to choose every detail individually, and we really like the final result.

Hello

You should expect to pay between 4000 and 5000 euros for a front door. Alternatively, you can check online, as there are sometimes very affordable doors available. I bought my windows and doors from abroad through a good friend. For example, one window measuring 3.25 meters x 2 meters (10.7 feet x 6.6 feet) with a roller shutter of 2.2 meters (7.2 feet) plus installation cost about 3200 euros.

If you’re interested, just send me a private message.

I have removed the link briefly, as this was agreed in the terms of use.

Hello,
we currently have a wooden door and would not choose one again. In our new house, there will be an aluminum door. With a wooden door, you can see every scratch, which can happen quite quickly and unintentionally with a keyring, etc. … painting a wooden door is also quite a lot of work and it looks really bad around the seals.

Hello

An aluminum door might be a bit cheaper than a fully wooden one. Yes, you are right, a wooden door requires a lot of maintenance, sanding and repainting every few years.

But only if it is exposed to rain.

And there is a solution against key scratches: no lock.

With an aluminum door, scratches appear just as quickly – but you won’t be able to remove them afterward. It’s different with a wooden door ;l

Hello,

I’m inclined to disagree. I know several users with aluminum doors that are about two years old—so the doors themselves, of course—and there is no visible damage. But I don’t need to be convinced anymore; my decision is already made. If you have glass in the wooden door, after the first coat of paint, the area around the seals no longer looks the same as before.
