Hello,

from when is it safe to hang pictures on the walls in a new solid construction? I have heard that especially on the exterior walls, you should wait for two years. Is that true?
Our hygrometers always show the air is too dry. That’s why I have placed several plants around.
Is it useful to get a moisture meter? They are available for about 20€, but do these provide reliable readings?

Best regards and have a nice weekend!

Whenever I give my two cents on topics like this, I mention that I'm not an expert. But I do find it logical that air needs to circulate behind cabinets. On the other hand, I've never heard that you need to worry about circulation at first and then install the cabinets closer to the wall after a few years.

I never said that you should mount them closer later on.

From what I’ve heard, it’s not about the panels falling off or anything like that, but rather about mold possibly forming behind the panels.
I can’t fully believe this, or rather, I don’t want to believe it because bare walls bother me.

A picture is not just a picture, and hanging is not just hanging.
I wouldn’t immediately screw a picture onto aluminum or glass. A picture printed on acrylic on canvas with a stretcher frame is no problem. Hanging something from nylon on a rail is different from using a hook.
Think carefully about each picture and how it is mounted. A golden rule is nonsense.

Yes, unfortunately, that can happen—and it did in our case. Luckily, it was only in the open staircase area and only behind a few pictures facing the basement. So, I attached small felt or rubber pads to the corners of the frames behind the pictures. This makes each picture stand a few millimeters (fractions of an inch) away from the wall, and since then, there haven’t been any further issues.

Good question. In our case, the heating radiators were screwed directly to the wall right after plastering. The plaster was only a few days old at that time. The walls are interior walls. Does anyone have any "experience-based insights," or should there be any concerns raised about this?

What is HKV?

I think we’ll go for it and hang a picture (acrylic painting on canvas 140x70cm (55x27.5 inches)) and use something as a spacer behind it. I’ll monitor it and remove it immediately if it starts to warp.

We have also installed large mirrors without any concerns, but those were on interior walls.
