Hello everyone,

Our townhouse will have floor-to-ceiling windows on the upper floor. We are currently looking for suitable French balconies for these windows.

However, we can't seem to find the ones we like online at the moment.

Maybe someone here can help us. We want balconies without posts, so just horizontal stainless steel bars that are fixed to the facade on the left and right sides.

Does anyone possibly have a link?

Thank you in advance!

Hello,

@Bauexperte: We also have windows planned like the ones you describe, but so far we haven’t seen any houses with these kinds of windows here and find it hard to really imagine them. A graphical view just isn’t the same as seeing the real thing.

I just realized for the first time that I don’t have a single photo showing such a window from the inside ... that’s going on my to-do list.

Instead, attached you will find pictures showing the transom windows in the facade; sometimes with and sometimes without a Juliet balcony. Additionally, there are photos from an ongoing building project, although still in the shell stage.

Best regards, Bauexperte

Great, thanks! Now we also have a picture of the final result.

What would be recommended for the fixed glazing on the lower floor of the upper level? With or without a central mullion?

Hello,

it looks good to me as it is!

That depends on the preferences of the person who will be cleaning your windows. I personally don’t mind the effort, so in my house, there wouldn’t be a mullion in the laminated safety glass. Being able to clean a flat surface goes much faster.

One more question: I’m very visual, and the asymmetry of the windows in relation to the attic and consequently the loft would bother me a lot. Have you considered shifting the windows on the lower floor in the living room (?) so that they form a kind of pyramid shape from top to bottom?

Isn't that a matter of personal preference? I would always prefer without a central post... I find it more attractive with as little framing as possible... It's already designed like that now and looks stylish!

I need to revive this thread:

How do the costs of fixed glazing compare to those of French balconies?

Also keep in mind that you will always have a "crossbar" in your window at the bottom edge of the fixed glazing. I didn’t like either option (fixed glazing or a regular French balcony).

That’s why I chose the glass option. From the inside, you can’t see any railing.
