Hello everyone,

Does anyone have experience with a freestanding bathtub?
It looks nice in inspiration photos, and my wife really wants to have one 🙂
The approximate floor plan is attached, about 12sqm (130sq ft).
Possible downsides might be:
- Are there really that many issues with dirt and cleaning, even if a sufficient distance from the wall is maintained?
- How does it look visually in a 12sqm (130sq ft) bathroom? Just as nice or rather inappropriate?
- How much more expensive is it compared to the standard built-in version? I understand the costs can vary widely, but for orientation: double, triple, ten times as expensive? Considering the installation of pipes and wiring under the screed, etc.

Thanks a lot for your opinions!
Best regards
NilsHolgersson

I have a 😉 ... and every morning I’m happy when I enter my neat, approximately 9.7m² (104 ft²) bathroom, which feels small (or maybe large?).
The shower is used about 96% of the time; when it gets colder again, I occasionally warm up my tired, old, and rheumatic bones in the bathtub while enjoying a good book with some background music.

... Freestanding bathtubs look very stylish and really nice, I’m also enthusiastic about them, but whether you really feel comfortable and relaxed in one, I don’t know. For myself, I answered that question with “no.” It’s hard not to be impressed by a beautiful appearance. Cleaning wouldn’t be an issue for me if I liked the tub.

For me, it’s impossible not to be influenced by a beautiful design 😳
Is that good or bad? I think my bathtub is great (of course, that’s a matter of taste), and it’s also comfortable.
There’s plenty of space to clean all around it, but usually my robot vacuum does that, and sometimes my cleaning person helps out.

In our case, it was the bathroom planner who strongly tried to convince me to go for a freestanding bathtub. And no – not because he wanted to make more money. He only sells tiles. 😀

I talked him out of it because I see several disadvantages.
- Thinner edge, which I imagine would be less comfortable for resting your arms
- I haven’t found any bathtubs designed for lying down that can match the comfort of a "regular" built-in tub
- Lack of surrounding shelf space, unless you have enough room to create this with additional furniture or built-in units
- Price (I believe it costs at least several thousand more)

Lucky you. 🙂 In our new house, we chose a bathtub that is longer and wider than before, expecting it to be more comfortable. I even tried it out without water first. However, now I hardly enjoy bathing because the tub is too long for me, and no matter how hard I try to “stick” under the water surface, I always end up slipping down. If I try to resist that, some parts of my body remain above the water. From my side, that was a mistake. All I can say is, “Be careful when buying a bathtub.” ;-)

I don’t want any plastic cushions or anything like that in the tub, since the discomfort isn’t bad enough for me to need them. For now, I’m still hoping for a physical miracle. :-)

Have you ever heard of a bathtub sofa? They’re pretty expensive, but they might solve your problem. It would definitely be cheaper than getting a new tub. 😉

Oh, thanks, that’s a very good tip. I didn’t know about it before and will look into it more closely.

@kati1337 ... there’s really all kinds of things out there. Are you talking about the one from Badesofa? That’s quite something. @Pinkiponk .. in principle, that could actually solve your problem and even be comfortable.
