Hello everyone,
The wooden formwork for the basement slab has been installed. After the insulation was laid, the formwork on the inside is still about 20 cm (8 inches) high. According to the plan, the slab should be 28 cm (11 inches) thick.
Is it normal for the formwork to be lower like this? Will more be added on top? Should I address this with the construction company?
Thank you!

Currently, there is space for a 20 cm (8 inch) thick concrete slab, but according to the plan, we need a 28 cm (11 inch) thick slab. I’m wondering if some kind of adjustment will happen or if we will need an expert to inspect and then have the 20 cm slab demolished... Well, instead of immediately calling in an expert, I would first try to have a discussion. For example, I have had roller shutter boxes installed where none were planned or doors put in the wrong place. But everything was resolved calmly through discussion and then either corrected or, as with the roller shutter box, simply not charged for.

grunlilie7 Oct 2025 12:09By now, it would be time to bring in an independent building inspector to monitor the quality for you.
You can still notice issues with 20cm (8 inches) and 28cm (11 inches),
but you won’t catch other construction errors at all.
Our building company knew about the inspection, and so did all the workers.
The result was, “We have to do a proper job because this is being inspected.”

Our building company was aware of the inspection, as were all the workers.
The result was, “we need to do a proper job because there is an inspection.” You are absolutely right. At first, I thought, “what could possibly go wrong?” But I guess that was too naive and optimistic. Unfortunately.
