Hello,

Are there any disadvantages if I skip lintels and install the roller shutters directly below the concrete ceiling on the ground floor and under the ring beam on the upper floor?

It isn’t either. Your window installer can do that and will take care of it.

I don’t think it’s that complex.

For new construction (first installation), it is hardly complex. However, there is still a lot of carelessness, starting with ordering based on architectural dimensions—especially misinterpreting measurements for floor-to-ceiling elements—and ending with excessive use of expanding foam during installation. Just having a butcher and a cordless drill does not make someone a window installer.

I did the same with two windows in the garage. The windows are 1.5m (4 ft 11 in) long × 0.40m (16 in), and the in-situ concrete ceiling effectively serves as the lintel.

Mistakes are often made with the wall connections. This includes the membrane that needs to be plastered over or the absence of permanently elastic sealing tape.
