Does anyone have experience with the Avatara Multisense flooring from Ter Hürne?
I would like to hear from users who have installed this Avatara Multisense in their homes.
Specifically, I am interested in the Oak Natural Beige 03 in 2100mm (83 inches) plank length.

Steinbock1 Sep 2017 11:55I completely understand. For us, a key factor in making the purchase was that there were only positive reviews about it online. Even the seller had some in stock and was amazed to see it installed in our home. At first, we doubted ourselves. Maybe it was just that particular batch affected... who knows. There are no other negative experiences documented—I searched extensively to find others with similar issues. That makes the solution all the more understandable. We have now received the flooring we originally wanted as a free replacement. The one we had chosen is simply no longer available. Maybe it really was a one-off case... we don’t know. By now, it doesn’t matter to us anymore, but after all the trouble, we really can’t say anything good about it. Maybe just lay down 1 square meter and test it thoroughly first.
Good luck!
Good luck!

Vanessa9417 Sep 2017 14:45Hello,
unfortunately, we cannot recommend this flooring. We built our house last August and chose the Avatara MultiSense flooring throughout the entire house because we liked its appearance and it was described as particularly resistant to damage.
We still like how it looks, but after just one week, we noticed the first scratches. We realized that the scratches were caused by things like wooden chairs (which at that time still had no felt pads), tiny stones that made it into the house and then caused scratches with slippers, or other everyday stresses.
What is especially frustrating is that the scratches are very visible because the white core layer beneath the wood finish immediately shows through.
At first, we thought it might be a manufacturing defect in that batch and contacted our local dealer. They arranged an on-site inspection with a representative from Ter Hürne. During the inspection, our concerns were downplayed. The scratches were explained with the unusual argument that the damages had a “mechanical” cause.
Then Ter Hürne carried out a stress test on a leftover piece of our flooring. Strangely enough, the result showed that the flooring was fine and met all standard requirements.
As a goodwill gesture and to close the matter, they offered us two new packs of the flooring, which we were not happy with. That was the last we heard from the company.
Our biggest issue is that the comfort of living is diminished because we constantly have to watch out for the floor and, for example, ask every guest to remove their shoes.
In hindsight, we would have been better off choosing a cheaper laminate floor like friends of ours did, who also have children and a dog and still have a scratch-free floor to this day.

Chefschrauber7 Nov 2017 21:07Hello,
this is unbelievable, I really got lucky!! Thank you all for your comments!
We chose the ter Hürne long country plank in dark walnut as Multisense and already have a sample here.
I don’t care about the issue with dogs; our dogs even scratch the glass plate in front of the stove. It’s clear to me personally that laminate can’t compete with that.
But encouraged by your posts, I decided to do a test.
We took the ter Hürne sample, placed a chair with felt glides on it, sat down, and slid the chair leg back and forth. Nothing happened!
Then we went to the hallway, took an IKEA pinewood stool without felt glides, which has been standing for years on inexpensive laminate without leaving any scratches. Then we put the stool on the ter Hürne laminate with one corner (everything on the stool is rounded), I sat down, once back and forth, tada! The brown layer is gone and the white layer shows through, exactly as Vanessa said. That is definitely not acceptable!
Of course, we made the same cross-check with all the other laminate samples ranging from 10 to 28 euros... none showed any scratches!
Ter Hürne is therefore 10000% out. Such a shame, we were really looking forward to it and almost decided on it.
Best regards

Steinbock8 Nov 2017 14:03Hey chief builder,
this is incredible. I’m just as surprised as Vanessa that there haven’t been any further negative experiences with the Avatara. It’s unbelievable what kind of poor quality Ter Hürne is offering here. So always make sure to test first!

Chefschrauber8 Nov 2017 16:32I called ter Hürne today and explained the situation to them. The lady was very informative and told me that with the flooring— which is definitely not laminate—you can have fun with it as long as you handle it carefully. I believe her. I also appreciated that she didn’t try to present the flooring as exceptionally durable.
I wouldn’t go as far as to say that this is low-quality material. I would rather assume that this flooring is made or was made to feel particularly comfortable and warm, which has clearly been achieved. But to create this feeling, you have to accept a compromise—the trade-off of lower surface hardness and therefore less scratch resistance. That’s my idea about the more sensitive surface.
I’m uploading a picture of my sample with a scratch here.
I hereby confirm that I caused the scratch using an Ikea stool made of laminated wood; I did not use any metallic or other hard or sharp objects.

Steinbock9 Nov 2017 14:30I see this quite differently. They specifically advertise the extremely high durability on their website; I quote:
"Consistently High Resistance
Durable Surface Finish
Floors are constantly exposed to heavy use. Careful workmanship and high-quality materials provide the basis for worry-free and intense use at any time.
Avatara’s exceptional durability is achieved through its robust yet slightly elastic polymer layer. Thanks to the special surface finish, the floor easily withstands the heavy stresses of everyday life. All Avatara floors feature a moisture-resistant HDF core board with optimized protection against moisture."
...furthermore, it states...
"Usage Class
All Ter Hürne laminate floors and Avatara MultiSense® floors are ranked in the highest usage classes according to DIN EN 13329. We therefore guarantee long-lasting quality.
AC4/32
Usage Class 32 / AC4 (IHD-W-467)
Avatara floors demonstrate their durability through the highest usage class 32 (according to DIN EN 15468). Here, the abrasion is determined separately according to the strict factory standard IHD-W-467."
So one should at least be able to slide a stool or something similar back and forth on it. What about in a medical practice where people come in with dirty shoes, or in childcare facilities where kids drag chairs around...?
That’s unacceptable; I stick to my opinion that inferior flooring is being sold here, which does not deliver what it boldly promises. I even had pink discoloration on the floor from a pink memo paper that had fallen onto the freshly mopped floor. It was never removable, as if it had been absorbed into the floor. And the dirt practically "dissolved" into the joints. Anyway, we have a new floor now and are satisfied.
