Hello,

a room in the basement of my new build is planned as a gym/home theater. The room is about 6x4 meters (20x13 feet) in size. Underfloor heating is planned. I read somewhere that needle felt carpeting would be suitable because it is easy to clean (due to sweat) and heavy equipment does not leave marks.

Which type of flooring would you recommend?

For or rather against this, there are carpet cleaners

I would choose linoleum for weights and similar equipment.
If Pilates and yoga are the main activities on the floor, classic hardwood flooring is best.
Needle-punched carpet will most likely start to smell unpleasant after a few years.

Linoleum or vinyl, both are very easy to clean. Needle felt... in our fitness studio, mostly linoleum is used, with felt only in the floor mat area.
I find hard surfaces easier to wipe clean and more hygienic, especially in places where a lot of sweating occurs.

I can only agree with the previous speakers.

Thanks in advance for the answers. From an acoustic perspective (because of the home theater), smooth flooring surfaces are probably not the best choice. However, they are easier to clean. I will probably use some type of carpet and cover the fitness area with rubber mats.
