Hello,

a room in the basement of my new build is planned as a gym/home theater. The room is about 6x4 meters (20x13 feet) in size. Underfloor heating is planned. I read somewhere that needle felt carpeting would be suitable because it is easy to clean (due to sweat) and heavy equipment does not leave marks.

Which type of flooring would you recommend?

Yes, of course – but I meant a real water damage situation, where the water is a few centimeters (inches) deep. In that case, silicone often fails because it tends to crack.

It simply soaks into the walls and then runs down, but with 16 m² (172 ft²), half a centimeter (0.2 inch) of height already equals 80 liters (21 gallons). So it helps for small amounts, but there is little effective protection against a large volume of water.

We have installed needle felt flooring in the fitness room – at least, we have designated a room for that purpose, oops. I’ve been told that dried sweat can be easily vacuumed out.

How can sweat be vacuumed up? Shouldn’t that also work with water, cola, and red wine :-P.
Don’t believe everything you’re told.

Why won’t this work? A dried-up salt lake in Utah can theoretically be absorbed as well...
When a red wine spill dries up, it just leaves behind stubborn red stains. I know that from my countertop.

Well, seriously: gyms usually have needle-punch carpet. In weightlifting areas, there are also rubber mats.

Solution: Just don’t train too hard, because where there’s planing, there will be shavings.
