Hello everyone,

After living in our new home for a while now, we have been looking for a company to help us with garage construction for more than four weeks.

Due to the busy season and holiday period, this has not been easy at all.

After receiving several offers (precast concrete garages, metal garages, wooden garages, brick garages), we are currently leaning towards a wooden garage with a sectional door. In other words, something like a carport with enclosed walls, a door, and a garage door. This option fits our budget best (7.6 x 4.6 x 2.1 m (25 x 15 x 7 ft) plus installation = approximately 11,000). We are still waiting on the actual quote, though, which has been pending for two weeks.

Now we need to focus on the foundation and slab.

According to the garage supplier, the garage area could be paved, and the corresponding contractor would install frost-resistant pad foundations with H-anchors.

However, we don’t really like that solution. We prefer a smooth, level concrete slab for the floor instead of paving stones with joints inside the garage, even if it costs a bit more.

Unfortunately, it seems nearly impossible to find a company willing to do this for us. Apparently, many contractors are very busy right now, which complicates scheduling and affects pricing.

So far, we have only received one binding offer from a landscaping company, but according to a surveyor friend, it is quite expensive.

Details: Garage foundation size is 7.6 m x 4.6 m (25 x 15 ft). The offer includes a slab thickness of 20 cm (8 inches), which in my opinion is not frost-resistant. The contractor plans to use 30 cm (12 inch) blocks for the perimeter. He wants about 3,000 for the job, excluding excavation work.

What do you think? Isn’t this a bit high (75 € / m² (around 7 $ / ft²) plus VAT)? What alternatives are there?

Do you have any tips on how to find willing contractors in the Bavaria region?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Best regards
M

How is it with doing it yourself for the small size?
(I certainly would)

Back to the beginning: Why not use paving? Especially for a wooden garage, it’s not a bad idea if the water can infiltrate and doesn’t stay on the concrete.

Because I no longer have the patience for paving ... and no more stones ... and no time ... and ...
Joking aside, how is water supposed to get inside a garage to infiltrate the ground?
I would prefer the whole thing to be sealed.

Too expensive: The offer simply reflects the current market: supply and demand,... Concrete has become quite expensive lately. Plus formwork and so on,... Unfortunately, I don’t have any comparison figures for you.

According to a colleague (surveyor), about 1 cubic meter of concrete costs roughly 120 € without labor costs, of course.
