ᐅ Floor plan with an internal pantry – What should be considered?

Hello,
we are currently planning our interior layout, and in the latest version, our pantry would be completely internal (without a window). I have read in various posts that this can sometimes cause issues, depending on its use.

We intend to use the pantry for storing food as well as electrical appliances that are not used daily. It will also hold beverage crates, etc. Additionally, there is a cellar room available where food can be stored for the long term.

We are also considering placing a freezer in the pantry to save space (and improve the look) in the kitchen.

What do you think of this plan/idea? What should we be aware of?

Since there is no window, would it be possible to have ventilation through the roof (our apartment is on the upper floor)? However, I do not want to install a skylight at this point.

Best regards

The floor slab or the base floor will not be equipped with expansion joints. The heat from the surrounding surfaces is sufficient.

We planned it with exhaust ventilation. It was the same in our old house.

From my experience with exhaust ventilation: it’s a bit of a disaster for foods that quickly lose moisture. For example, mandarins shrink and become too shriveled to eat within two days. This happened in an open-plan room with fresh air supply only on one side in the living area and exhaust ventilation in the kitchen area.
I now store fruits and vegetables only in the utility room (unless they’re stored in the fridge’s climate compartment), where there is no heating or mechanical ventilation system installed.

A chimney will likely run adjacent to the pantry, which also generates residual heat. Is that a problem?

Counterproductive. I would suggest creating a storage room instead of a pantry and planning for an additional 60cm (24 inches) cabinet in the kitchen to store your food.

We also decided to leave out the underfloor heating in our pantry. In hindsight, this was a mistake because our heating system can also provide cooling. As a result, during the height of summer, all rooms maintain moderate temperatures—except the pantry. 🙄
We are now considering retrofitting the cooling function through the ceiling.
