Hello everyone,
Maybe someone can help me.
We would like to create an opening between the kitchen and the dining room.
The planning is still in the early stages, and a first look at the floor plan has been taken.
There, I found the following symbol, which is unfamiliar to me, especially in this combination.
Does anyone know what it means? It concerns the symbol in the lower right corner of the dining room.
Thanks and best regards

Simon-18927 Sep 2023 15:17There are still previously planned floor or ceiling openings remaining.
A stack ventilation for the bathroom on the upper floor could therefore make sense, with this duct possibly continuing down into a cellar, if one exists.
Are the thin walls around the openings actually built, or were they only planned and never constructed?

A stack ventilation for the bathroom on the upper floor could therefore fit, meaning that this pipe might continue into a possibly existing basement?
Are the thin walls around the openings actually present, or were they only planned but never built? The opening is present. Indeed, it could be a planned chimney layout. However, this was never implemented. There is no indication of anything like that on the wall or ceiling.

The chimney is located in the living room, where there used to be an open fireplace with a seating bench. Ah yes, the circle was a chimney flue 🙂

I'm Bad, at the lower right is the chimney (counterpart to the living room on the ground floor) And in the children's room, the counterpart to the dining room.

I’m attaching the overall floor plan again. The basement would also be interesting.
It could be the waste pipe that runs vertically with its venting system.

On the roof ridge, approximately at this point, there is a pipe that regulates the air supply for the sanitary installations. M

And in the children's room, the equivalent of the dining room.

It could be the soil vent pipe running from bottom to top with its venting.I just checked again. It seems to be the vent pipe that runs from the basement up to the attic. You can hear the hollow space when tapping. However, it is not in the corner but rather more centrally located in the wall.
This will unfortunately make the breakthrough quite difficult.
Thank you very much, everyone!

KarstenausNRW27 Sep 2023 16:19Then I’ll solve the puzzle. The symbol means: smoke chamber.
In open fireplaces, this is the funnel-shaped area above the fire where the smoke is collected (hence the name) and then directed to the chimney.
At the end (see 1st floor) it’s basically nothing more than a chimney.
The marking in the living room (which is round) is also formally a "smoke chamber," but a round one.
