ᐅ Floor Plan of a Narrow, Rectangular L-Shaped House on a Triangular Plot with an Oak Tree

Hello everyone!

We have purchased a triangular plot of land. As if that weren’t complicated enough, there is also a large oak tree that must be considered during the planning. In our initial considerations, it quickly became clear that the floor plan will have an L-shape.

Does anyone here have experience with this type of plot and a correspondingly shaped floor plan? What additional information is needed to get meaningful advice?

Best regards

That’s exactly the point. And the original poster deserves some criticism for not providing clarity here and for not revealing their ideas regarding the building structure and its position on the plot.

Hard to say. I’m not much of a design talent. “Underground garage” – the land inclines by one meter (3.3 feet) to the north. So instead of going down 2.5 meters (8.2 feet), it would only be 1.5 meters (4.9 feet). You would have a half-story facing the street. Whether lighting requirements can be met there is questionable, but not impossible.

We are thinking of a reversed L-shaped building. A terrace could be placed on top of the underground garage. This would allow access around the house. An above-ground garage is not an option because the ground floor would be too dark. Floor-to-ceiling windows on both sides would help mitigate the narrow, elongated shape of the rooms. Also, the kitchen is planned there. As you can see, we have already put some thought into it.

It would be great to build right up to the street. That’s where the building envelope is widest.

We are planning an extension for the front door including a hallway and guest bathroom within the setback area from the street. Does the neighbor also

Could you please upload a sketch, @Oakland? That would help a lot of people here.

A car can also be parked outside; it’s a car, not made of sugar.

I will never understand why people spend so much money on a garage. Especially in this case, where it is already clear that significantly more money than average will have to be spent on architectural and construction services, and the budget is obviously so limited that this purchase happened at all...

Actually, this cheeky comment doesn’t really deserve a response. But well...
I apologize if I offended you.
I hope I’m wrong and that you manage to get it done. Good luck!
