Hello everyone,
We have finally received our initial preliminary drawings and are currently reviewing them in detail. Overall, everything fits our needs so far, except for the kitchen.
As shown on the plan, we are currently quite unhappy with it – in my opinion, there is very little space for tall cabinets, and the distance from one side to the other is quite long. The location of the stove on the plan also doesn’t make sense. The problem is that right now, we don’t have a complete wall without any interruptions.
At the moment, we are considering whether to
1) remove the door from the hallway to the kitchen
2) move the door all the way to the left or right
3) omit (reluctantly) or at least reduce or shift a window
4) make the opening to the living room smaller (a sliding door is planned there)
My dream would actually be to have a small bar counter with 1-2 seats. However, I find it hard to imagine this fitting into the current floor plan.
Do you perhaps have some ideas or tips for us? Also happy to hear feedback on the rest of the ground floor.
Thanks in advance!

We actually don’t want a kitchen island because we don’t really see the added value ;-) We have a similar setup with the cooktop and a retractable recirculating hood on one side, and a small dining area on the other. Next to the dining area, there is a slightly taller cabinet, creating a niche behind it for dirty dishes.
This arrangement provides extra storage and workspace.
If we generously assume a ceiling height of 2.60 meters (8.5 feet), then allow for a soffit of 30 cm (12 inches) to accommodate the ceiling extractor fan, plus a working height of 90 cm (35 inches), the distance to the cooktop remains 1.40 meters (55 inches). This is not a problem for a ceiling extractor. However, these are generally not among the cheaper options. 😉
Of course, there must be enough space available for such a setup. If the soffit extends along the entire length and is fitted with LED lighting, it also looks quite attractive.
