Hello everyone,

we are planning to start building a bungalow using solid construction methods in 2015/2016. Since we designed the floor plan ourselves, we would really appreciate your opinions and suggestions.
We have already found a suitable plot of land for our project, and the bungalow can basically be positioned on it.

We are most uncertain about the bathroom layout and have initially developed three alternatives for it.

Floor plan: house on red plot with terrace, kitchen, living room, bedroom, guest room, garage.

Three bathroom layouts as alternatives 1–3 with shower, toilet, and bathtub.

Plan on the left, Yvonne .. there is an arrow

Hmm .. but I see quite a few door handles ...
  • Pure east-facing terrace
  • West side with evening sun is hardly usable
  • Walk-in closet .. only one row of cabinets fits, is that enough space?
  • Is the building boundary allowed as shown, or are there restrictions? What about permitted roof types?
  • Guest room has to use the private bathroom

Questions
  • Two-person household .. or is another child planned?
  • Working from home?

I don’t see a problem with guests having private access to the bathroom. That’s how I’m used to it, and that’s how we build as well. For guests who stay overnight occasionally, I wouldn’t install an additional bathroom either.

At first glance, a few important points stand out:
- The hallway will be quite dark.
- The walk-in closet seems very narrow. Also, with the window, a wardrobe with a depth of 60cm (24 inches) won’t really fit. I would place the closet more towards the front area of the bedroom. Additionally, the space around the bed isn’t very suitable for older people; it’s quite tight.
- The storage room is hardly usable. You might be better off with a cupboard there.
- The utility room is quite small once all the equipment is installed.
- The recessed entrance is very narrow. Coming home with a shopping basket, it will be quite tight, and you’ll have to be careful not to bump your ankles against the wall.
- No door between the kitchen and living room?
- The access to the living room seems somewhat hidden.
