Hello dear community,
I have been a silent reader in this forum so far and am always impressed by the ideas shared here. Now I need some help myself.
We are currently planning an extension to our house. Upstairs, we want to create our new bedroom with an en suite bathroom and a walk-in closet. However, the current design does not fully convince us yet. Maybe you can help us with a creative idea for a redesign.
What is important to us:
- The north side and the street side are at the bottom of the plan. Therefore, we would preferably like to keep the sleeping area on the south side if possible.
- All windows and walls in the room can be changed. Only the door to the bedroom must remain in its current position.
Attached is the floor plan. What do you think? What alternatives do we have?
Thank you in advance for your ideas and best regards
Hannah

I already messaged you in the other forum 🙂
Please consider this just as a sketch and of course only possible if the bathroom walls can still be modified.
I wouldn’t like the cabinet layout at all, since you have to pass through a 60cm (24 inch) deep shaft twice. But the access to the bathroom is definitely better this way. For example, you could place a dresser opposite the foot of the bed.
One square on the sketch represents 1 meter (3.3 feet). With a wardrobe depth of about 60cm (24 inches), there is slightly more than 1 meter (3.3 feet) left for walking space—depending, of course, on how wide the bathroom ends up being.
Exactly, opposite the bed you could place a dresser, a nice picture, or anything else on the wall.

My point was that you have to pass through walls that are 60cm (24 inches) deep both at the door to the bedroom extension and to the bathroom. With a door width of 90cm (35 inches), this doesn’t feel comfortable and can seem narrow and oppressive.

I really like the change in the door position! Thanks, ibdk14! We could solve the issue of the dark dressing area with a window on the lower side of the plan, although that is of course the north side and therefore less bright. With the two doors and the window, we would also lose some closet space in the dressing area. Ah… not so easy after all 🙁
The entire sleeping area will be located above the living room.
