Hello dear community,
I have been a silent reader in this forum so far and am always impressed by the ideas shared here. Now I need some help myself.
We are currently planning an extension to our house. Upstairs, we want to create our new bedroom with an en suite bathroom and a walk-in closet. However, the current design does not fully convince us yet. Maybe you can help us with a creative idea for a redesign.
What is important to us:
- The north side and the street side are at the bottom of the plan. Therefore, we would preferably like to keep the sleeping area on the south side if possible.
- All windows and walls in the room can be changed. Only the door to the bedroom must remain in its current position.
Attached is the floor plan. What do you think? What alternatives do we have?
Thank you in advance for your ideas and best regards
Hannah

Seems like the architect was not paying attention? Having the chimney in the middle of the exterior wall also doesn’t make much sense. The varying thicknesses of the exterior walls are not ideal either. In my opinion, the apartment for the daughter needs a complete redesign.
The fireplace will be completely removed. We no longer need a chimney flue since we are installing a heat pump. I don’t know why it still appears in the plans…
For the existing building, the exterior walls will be insulated to match the consistent thickness of the extension.
Oh dear, what is wrong with the apartment?

hanghaus202326 Mar 2023 14:05I wouldn’t really want to have to walk from the bedroom through the living room to get to the bathroom. The roof terrace facing northeast? The large roof overhang on the north side?
The route from the bedroom to the bathroom and walk-in closet was also inconvenient for us, but we couldn’t find a better solution. Unfortunately, we ran out of ideas there. The roof terrace was planned because of the view and the “niche” in that area. The roof overhang was necessary to comply with building regulations.

The original poster has planned only 15 steps. You can’t install a dropped ceiling with that. 😉 I’m also curious about the ceiling construction. The opening in the exterior wall to the living room will probably have a substantial supporting beam. That would leave only about 2.2 m (7.2 ft) of clearance height.Well, our ceilings are quite high, that’s true. I’m curious to see how it will look. I believe that even with the floor buildup and dropped ceiling, we should still have a slightly higher ceiling height than in our first house.
