Hello. My partner and I are planning to build a house soon. This is the first draft from the planner at the construction company. The design was created based on our specifications (a hand-drawn sketch from us).
Gable roof, single-family house, no basement, 1.5 stories, currently 2 people in the household; later 3-4.
The terrace is planned to be adjacent to the kitchen and living area, mainly facing west. Do you think it would be better to have it facing south instead? Possibly wrap around the corner near the living area?
Our requirement was to have direct access from the garage/carport into the utility room, and from there directly into the kitchen.
- Is the size of the utility room sufficient? All the building services should be housed there. Additionally, the utility room should also serve as a kind of pantry. Laundry tasks will also be done there.
- What do you think about the downstairs bathroom? Showering directly in front of the window doesn’t seem ideal^^.

When I print out and review my paperwork at work, I still notice mistakes that I didn’t see on the screen. Lucky to have so much time to waste. My boss would have fired you long ago for doing everything twice. And in our office, we have a motto: "Think before you print." Who wastes paper over such nonsense? And this in the year 2018. Sorry. For the sake of nature, I have to be ashamed for you...

And especially when it takes longer, mistakes might be more likely to be noticed; Assuming the time factor is constant. Then you notice just as many mistakes using the tool as when drawing by hand. After all, the eyes are a constant, too. And in the tool, I usually see more than with a 1mm (0.04 inch) pencil line on graph paper. Especially since there are many more colors and contrasts than just black and white.
But elephants’ eyesight worsens with age. Cataracts and such. Then two colors are enough, of course xD

Now, assuming the factor time is constant. Then you will notice just as many mistakes with the tool as when drawing by hand. After all, the eyes are also a constant. And with the tool, I actually see more than with a 1mm (0.04 inch) pencil line on grid paper. Simply because of many more colors and better contrast than just black and white.
But elephants’ eyesight worsens with age. Cataracts and such. Then, of course, two colors are enough xDHere, someone has no idea. Media disruptions sharpen perception—that is even scientifically proven. If I took the time, I could find the corresponding study somewhere.
It really is as the miller says: mistakes often only become noticeable when changing the medium. Which applies both ways. Attention is reawakened when switching media.
Everyone has probably experienced this themselves, for example during presentations. Endless PowerPoint battles become tiring sooner or later, no matter how well the slides are designed. A good presenter will sometimes use, for example, a flip chart (very popular as an idea repository) or otherwise direct the audience’s attention somewhere else so they can follow more attentively afterward.
I have nothing against good software; I use it myself. But something made by hand is wired better in the brain. The German word “begreifen” (to grasp/understand) is not called that by chance.

By that logic, programmers would be unskilled idiots. The opposite is true. They are in high demand like hardly anyone else.
That’s what I mean by a new era and finally arriving... Rethinking – moving away from the familiar, accepting the new, allowing different approaches. This often means tapping into unexpected potential in people – like DJs who never learned to read music but still inspire huge crowds with their sound.
You are comparing apples and oranges here. It’s not enough to simply use some type of CAD tool for floor plans or houses; you also need to have some understanding of the subject matter.
I personally use tools exclusively for drawing floor plans (VA Professional), but I don’t think this is suitable for someone’s first steps if they have never dealt with floor plans before or have no prior experience with the functionalities of such programs. You can immediately notice these gaps in knowledge in many initial forum posts.
Also, I always like the first sketches of ideas from architects very much.

Nothing meaningful will ever come out if the architect has no knowledge of houses. Whether they work by hand or on a computer, I consider both equally valid. The same applies to "grasping" the concept.

Here someone has no clue. Media disruptions sharpen perception, You yourself have zero comprehension. Where did I ever say that changing media is not helpful? Nowhere... I said,
1. that here it is required to do your job correctly the first time because time is money.
2. wasting paper on every little thing is a no-go in 2018! The paperless office has been the goal for 10–15 years!
In conclusion, if you want to criticize my posts, please don’t invent things I never said! That would be a fail in German class = 6.
