Hello everyone,

I would like to know if you see any potential for improvement in the upper floor.

Thanks for the collective expertise.

Layout: children's bathroom + 2 children's bedrooms (14 + 15 m² (150 + 161 sq ft)) + master area (bedroom 11 m² (118 sq ft) + walk-in closet 7 m² (75 sq ft) + bathroom 10 m² (108 sq ft))
Detailed floor plan of a house with rooms, doors, walls, and dimensions.

Since the planned kids' bathroom is likely to cause claustrophobia, with a rough construction width of 163 cm (64 inches), it will be a small shower and a cramped toilet area. And the 160 cm (63 inches) wide desk doesn’t even fit in the children's room.

Neither you nor others offering this advice mean it badly, mind you (I believe I briefly saw a deletion question from the OP earlier). But even if the timing makes the pain worse, it remains the only reasonable solution. Without a fundamental redesign, it cannot be saved, but it is highly advisable.
I even understand the OP. It’s certainly not easy. So much heart and time has gone into the floor plan, and then it gets thoroughly criticized. That’s something you really have to digest.

Hello OP, could you briefly update us on how far along everything is? How extensive are changes still possible?
Maybe the ground floor is already in shell construction, in which case all the “start over” suggestions won’t help anymore...

Only minor changes possible?
- I would remove the children’s bathroom there; it’s probably not very practical anyway, and the children’s bedroom would benefit greatly without the bathroom.
- Then consider whether everyone can manage with just the one large bathroom (kids don’t live at home forever) — if yes, leave the rest as is.
- If not, and having a private bathroom next to the master bedroom is a must, then the walk-in closet would have to go, and the current master bathroom/walk-in closet area could be converted into two decent bathrooms.

Are major changes still possible?
- Then rethink everything (!) — hard to say without seeing the ground floor.

Best regards,
GD

The original poster (OP) apparently did not expect 100% negative feedback. However, burying one’s head in the sand won’t help either.

Is that correct? I can somehow understand that. However, you can clearly see here that with Tetris-style packing, everything mainstream had to be squeezed in at all costs, so that the basic quality of life no longer remains. But: they are responsible adults 😉

A brief update from the original poster:
The design was built like this back in 2019, and today we can say we built exactly to meet our needs.
We planned the upper floor a bit smaller and made the ground floor plus basement, including the separate granny flat, larger. The separated walk-in closet (due to different wake-up times) and the relatively small bathroom work perfectly for us.

Even the kids’ rooms turned out really nice, despite the corners.

But of course, everyone has different tastes.
