Hello everyone,

After the great help with the floor plan design (LINK) (thank you!), the floor plan is now fixed, and we are moving on to fine-tuning the window planning on the ground floor .
This is a so-called “linked house,” meaning no windows can be placed on the right side (basically like a semi-detached house). Therefore, it’s even more important to make optimal use of the available options.

Attached is the current plan. We are already quite satisfied with the windows on the north side (kitchen); they are about 80cm (31.5 inches) high horizontal windows, although suggestions for improvement are, of course, very welcome!

There is still room for improvement on the south side, but we just can’t find a good solution. The couch corner is important to us, as is the TV opposite it. However, this makes it difficult to position the windows optimally because having a TV right in front of a window is not ideal either. In the current proposal, we are concerned that the couch corner might end up too dark?!

We would be very grateful for any suggestions or ideas regarding the window layout.

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

Specifically, I prefer kitchen windows—at least in the work area—that a) either open entirely above the kitchen faucet, or b) at least have their movable sash(s) starting above the kitchen faucet; in case b), the lower part would be fixed glass, allowing, for example, small pots of parsley to remain there without getting in the way.

Ahh, now I got it. Thanks! We have something like this in our current apartment:

... and this also provides a good example of a solid lower section extending across the entire width, as recommended here for the upper floor windows.

An interior parapet height of 125 cm (49 inches) often creates a basement-like appearance inside. Also, I would base the kitchen window design on the kitchen layout because I prefer windows where the countertop extends into the window recess and ideally serves as additional workspace.

And, I know you said the floor plan is fixed, but the questions about the kitchen window and the terrace door design wouldn’t arise with

Thank you very much. We also reviewed the old thread several times and adopted some individual ideas, but for the basic concept, we stuck to the classic layout (kitchen at the front, living/dining area at the back).

This simply suits us better. We just don’t like the fully integrated kitchen in this design. It might also be because we prefer the traditional kitchen run, even though these “islands” are currently more popular.

"In" refers to the state before becoming "out" again
