Hello everyone,

I have been a silent reader for some time now, and we are currently planning our floor plan. I would appreciate hearing your opinions on it.

In my view, it is a standard design with a few small special features. We really like it so far and would implement it as it is currently planned.

Maybe you will notice something that is particularly poorly designed.

Thank you very much!!

The northwest elevation leaves me speechless.
I assume that is meant negatively?

I’m at a loss for words with the northwest view.
It really looks bad visually. You can’t be a symmetry fanatic here. But to each their own.

Have you had the floor plan structurally checked? One side/corner on the ground floor basically has no support over a large area. That’s 40m² (430 sq ft) without support plus a corner window. I can’t imagine that working so easily.

Have you had the floor plan checked by a structural engineer? One side/corner on the ground floor basically has no support over a large area. That's 40 square meters (430 square feet) without support plus a corner window. I can't imagine that something like this works that easily.

Thanks, I will have that checked. I understand that this is not everyone's preference. Basically, constructive criticism is very welcome, especially since this is the first build of my life. But comments that only express a subjective opinion without any basis of constructive criticism seem unnecessary to me... This was not meant as a response to your post 🙂

I find the orientation of the house "challenging." I would prefer a mirrored layout. For example, the first floor plan in post #13 seems much better to me (both in terms of orientation and layout).

Currently: bedroom in the southwest? Living room in the northeast? Utility room in the southwest? Bathroom in the west? Kitchen in the north? Terrace in the east? Garage in the southwest?

Maybe there is a reason behind this and you want it this way? Perhaps a site plan would also help here, so we can see the exact relationship to the neighboring property.

Exactly, as I said, the exterior wall where the bathroom is located is the unattractive side. This means that the windows on that side look directly at a neighbor’s wall. Therefore, living spaces are on the other side of the house. Changing the layout is not really an option for us. Nevertheless, thank you for the suggestion. I will definitely keep this in mind and reconsider the room orientations. 🙂

You don’t have to look through windows to enjoy the view; they also provide natural light to the house. Evening sunlight is a very pleasant living light. This could be used to balance the cool northern light.
