Hello everyone,
We are currently finalizing the floor plan of our house, and we keep running into a dilemma with one corner that we are still unsure about.
It concerns the wall/door between the hallway on the ground floor and the living/dining/kitchen area. It is important to us that the hallway and staircase are separated from the living space by a door. Attached you will find the floor plan as the wall and door are currently planned. What bothers us is that there is no direct access from the kitchen to the pantry. In red, we have (very professionally ;-) ) planned an alternative, but here we see a conflict between the door and the staircase. Also, we have not yet come up with a good option to have the door open into the living area instead of the hallway, without it getting in the way there.
The door cannot be placed on the other wall facing the kitchen either, as the kitchen cabinets would block that space.
Therefore, our question to you: Do you have any good ideas on how this could be solved?
Thank you in advance and have a nice evening!

I would cautiously suggest swapping the living room and kitchen, and placing the pantry door on the long wall. That’s why I asked for the complete floor plan.
But here, adjustments are being made in one spot where it already fails due to 500€ or 1000€.

I definitely wouldn’t want to block the hallway with a door like that. A sliding door is even less convenient to open than a hinged door. For the pantry, that would be too impractical for me. I’d probably stick with the original plan. That way, it won’t cost anything extra either.
Show the rest of the floor plan, so we can say more.

This is still the architect’s furniture proposal. Then show how it actually looks. With your current "optimization," the pantry would practically be in/next to the living room. There are simply situations/floor plans where you can't just move a door from point A to point B without needing additional changes.
No input means no output—and vice versa.

I definitely wouldn’t want to block the hallway with that kind of door. A sliding door is even less convenient to open than a hinged door. For the pantry, that would be too awkward for me. I would probably stick to the original plan. It also doesn’t cost extra. Thank you very much for your constructive input 🙂
We’ve now concluded that the briefly considered alternative (red sketch) won’t work. We’ve found another solution that we like even better. Thanks again for the input!

Thanks anyway for the input! Please let’s not remain ignorant…I “love” these kinds of discussions. Someone shows something and wants to change something, and then they come up with their own brilliant, ultimate solution that they keep secret. Wonderful!
