ᐅ Floor Plan Design: Is the Ground Floor Hallway Wide Enough?

Hello everyone,

We have already made good progress with the floor plan for a single-family house (see image of the ground floor).
A friend of ours mentioned that the corridor leading to the kitchen/living area on the ground floor, with rough construction dimensions of 1.07 and 1.16 meters (3.5 and 3.8 feet), seems too narrow from his point of view. He suggested that we should make the house at least 25 centimeters (10 inches) wider to allow more space here. However, we would prefer to avoid this with regard to costs, as the house, measuring about 9.0 x 12.5 meters (30 x 41 feet), is already quite large and fully covers our desired room layout.

Do you see any significant reason to consider that the corridor width in the hallway is too narrow and that we should revise the plan?

Many thanks and best regards

Yes, honestly
That’s just the tough fate of those who are "cost-conscious." Honestly, we don’t think it’s bad at all—we’ve been living in it for 1.5 years (18 months) now.

Just wait. We have been living in a not-so-affordable house for five years now. Unfortunately, the roof corners now need to be resealed with acrylic. That’s just how it is—the more affordable it is, the sooner something starts to “loosen up.”
I’m glad I can still reach it myself without climbing up the tall folding ladder...

Regarding ceiling height: 2.50m (8 ft 2 in) is not a big issue. Because of the enclosed construction, it actually feels less noticeable. But I wouldn’t be convinced to choose it just because of the staircase. 2.60m (8 ft 6 in) simply looks better. :P

I don’t think the original floor plan is that bad given the conditions. However, the staircase is really awkwardly placed right at the edge. Since it forces the ceiling height to be 2.50m (8 ft 2 in), it’s actually too short, and the space still isn’t sufficient.
You might have better luck with a straight staircase. Here’s a sketch. You could also swap the bedroom and bathroom depending on your preferences. (How important is this T-junction?) However, if you do that, the hallway window upstairs will be lost—unless you significantly reduce the size of the dressing room.

I’m not denying that at all. But in the end, it’s not all cheap junk. The price depends a lot on the system and ultimately on your own expectations.

I just find it kind of silly. Overall, Town & Country isn’t necessarily cheaper if you compare directly. The base price is low, and everything you add costs extra.
But if you don’t mind missing out on some features, you can get away fairly cheaply.

Quality is supposedly not that bad. I’ve heard that from many sources. But the standard price is based on the mentioned lower-end specifications.

The platform staircase requires more depth. The plot and house would actually fit well, leaning more toward a square shape. Just a little experiment with two nice large children's rooms. The floor area remains the same—so the price is neutral.

I know you like to joke around. But the original poster @ufr123 has long since left. The criticism was probably too much.
