I want to renovate and refurbish an old apartment. However, I am not satisfied with the layout. The walls between the kitchen and bedroom, as well as between the bedroom and living room, are load-bearing. Is it even possible to remove them?

The street runs along the bottom of the floor plan, and the garden area is at the top.

Does anyone have any tips for me? Somehow, I can’t bring myself to just renovate the rooms as they are.

Well, what can I say… who exactly is going to move in? What kind of rooms do you need? Which floor is the apartment on? What are the possibilities for plumbing installations, etc.? Heating… underfloor heating? How do you enter the apartment? Is there a balcony or terrace? Where is the stairwell? Is there a basement storage room? An attic for drying clothes? And so on and so forth… as you can see, a project like this can’t just be done quickly based on a floor plan.

On the condition that it is technically feasible.

I would convert the pantry, toilet, and part of the hallway into a modern bathroom.
The office would then become the bedroom.

The bedroom would become the office or something else.

The bathroom would become a storage room.
The small room in the living room would be demolished.

This is my parents' house. For now, two of us plan to move in. Additionally, I need a home office. The apartment is on the ground floor.

There is no way around consulting a structural engineer.

That will come later anyway. For now, the question for me is whether I should take over the apartment or if it’s not worth doing anything with it.
