Good morning forum, I’m working on an upcoming extension... A large double garage on the ground floor with living space and a balcony above. The garage will also serve as my private workshop, so it will be heated. Additionally, I occasionally celebrate my birthday there. Now I’m looking for a suitable floor for it. Do you have any ideas???

You want to install paving stones with underfloor heating? I've never heard of that before.
The weight of the car is already a challenge for underfloor heating,... The floor covering also needs to have sufficient thermal conductivity to keep the garage warm,...
Tiles would probably be the most practical solution. A drain in the middle and tiles with a slight slope to allow snow and rain to drain away.

Thank you all in advance for your ideas and opinions!!!!

A pit would be great, but is it possible to have the cover flush with the ground without a tripping edge? And what should be considered when planning a pit? What should the dimensions be?

A smooth edge can be easily achieved by creating a ledge 5 - 15 cm (2 - 6 inches) wide on both sides of the trench in the garage floor.

This ledge should be as deep as the thickness of the available wooden boards. These can then be cut to the required width and used as a cover.

Where I, as a party pooper, would like to question the approval feasibility of an excavation pit...

And at the same time, I want to thank you for the "tip," even though it will lead to quite a few discussions with my authorities, and I’m already considered the crazy one anyway.

In my further research, I found that many people in their workshops install OSB boards directly on the concrete instead of using foam insulation boards like Styrodur (or similar) on top of the screed, and then lay two layers of OSB boards, glued waterproof and installed as a floating floor. These are then sealed. I find this very interesting, but I wonder if the boards can withstand the moisture when a wet car is parked on them, as quite a bit of water accumulates. What do you think???

Grinding and sealing the concrete.

Can you tell me more about concrete core activation?
