Hello,

we are currently renovating our house. While looking for an effective thermal and sound insulation solution tailored to our specific conditions, I am quite uncertain about how to find the best option.

Our situation and ceiling structure are as follows:
From bottom to top:
1. Lime plasterboard with plaster
2. Ceiling joists (20cm (8 inches) high – between them a 6cm (2.5 inches) clay layer poured on wooden boards)
3. New wooden floorboards, 28mm (just over 1 inch) thick (everything is very level and even)

Now we want to add good sound and thermal insulation on top, as well as underfloor heating.
Sound and thermal insulation are important to us because there will be a rental apartment beneath the future rooms.

For the underfloor heating, we will probably use the PURMO TS 14 system.
The underfloor heating assembly will then consist of a 35mm (1.4 inches) EPS system board plus 23mm (about 1 inch) of dry screed.

We have about 13–16cm (5–6 inches) total building height available for the entire assembly. So there is still 7–10cm (3–4 inches) left for additional insulation.
But which insulation system can be placed below the underfloor heating, or which one is compatible? Perhaps there are other recommendations for the floor assembly and the underfloor heating system.

Thank you very much in advance

Hello,

Rockwool has now recommended installing Floorrock HP with a thickness of 40 mm (1.6 inches) underneath the underfloor heating. The advantage here would be good sound insulation (especially impact sound) while keeping the allowable compressibility within the limit (3 mm / 0.1 inches).

What comparable systems are there for this?

Best regards, Tenor
