Hello

We want to install a floating vinyl floor in our new build (we want a floating floor, not glued).

We have chosen Modular One with integrated cork underlayment for impact sound insulation.

What else do we need?
PE foil and sealing tape to tape the joints of the PE foil.

Can we also use PE foil and tape from Prinz?

I also have a question about installation.
Upstairs, we want to lay the floor in 3 rooms plus the hallway.

Can we install the floor continuously from room to room without expansion joints or transition strips?

We would prefer not to use transition strips because we don’t like how they look.

Will there be any problems if we install the floor continuously?

What about the hallway?
We have an open staircase.
Can we lay the floor right up to the edge of the stair railing without an expansion joint?
Or do we definitely need an expansion joint between the floor and the edge of the stair railing?
What kind of finishing trim is recommended for the stairwell?

If we can lay the floor without an expansion joint next to the stair railing, then its height would be roughly the same as the edge of the stair railing.

Thank you very much for your help

There must always be a gap left next to the walls.
Simplified: 8mm (0.3 inches). A professional would calculate it more precisely.

A gap must also be left at the staircase. A finishing strip will be installed there.

Between rooms, there are doors, resulting in shorter lengths and therefore different floor expansion --> transition strip.

You can find a suitable selection for this at the hardware store.

@Osnabruecker

Thank you for your message.

It is clear that we need to maintain the expansion joint at the wall.

If I understand you correctly, we also must definitely maintain the expansion joint at the staircase. What kind of molding is used there?

The edge along the staircase is about 3.20m (10.5 feet) long.

We also need to install an expansion joint and a transition strip under the doors.

Can we install it the way shown in the picture? They also laid the Modular One there (which must not be glued down and was therefore installed as a floating floor) continuously from room to room.

And for the staircase, which is very similar to ours, they apparently did not install an expansion joint, maybe only a silicone sealant.
Bright hallway with wooden floor, staircase on the left, open passage to the next room.

You need to include an expansion joint everywhere. Vinyl flooring does not care whether there is a wall, a staircase edge, a door frame, or a heating pipe in the way. Technically, it makes no difference.

So was it installed incorrectly as shown in the photo?

What is the name of the finishing trim for stairs? Length 3.20m (10.5 feet)?

Yes, but I also installed it at our door area without an extra joint. Usually, that's not a problem, but technically it's not correct. I would avoid joints except maybe for very large areas.
