Hello,
since we have screwed solid wood planks on joists in almost the entire house for many years and really liked it, we are now considering whether to choose solid wood planks again in the new house, but this time with underfloor heating and therefore directly on the screed.
We do not want an adhesive floor, so we are looking for experiences with floating solid wood plank installations.

It’s actually fun to think about things like this. You probably don’t want to know what we endlessly and repeatedly worry about. We’re practically experts in searching for the all-in-one perfect solution! Lucky you have already committed to a manufacturer...

At first, we were also concerned it might look too "wild" because of the knots or the second-choice knots, etc. By now, my better half often says the floor could actually be a bit more lively... Aha... I guess the neighbor’s garden always looks greener, that seems to be something we all experience.

For the new build, I want to be a bit bolder with color, etc. Right now, everything is rather white with the modest oak wood; in the new place, there might be more green, blue, or something else. The first visualizations are already underway, the all-in-one perfect solution is already in sight...

Reading about your situation, I think I see the way to the goal:
Your wife doesn’t want the floor glued down, so it will be installed as a floating floor. Good, decision made.

This has the advantage that in case of any damage, it’s relatively easy to replace; that was also a reason for me to choose a floating floor — it reduces the worry of making a “lifetime decision”; if necessary, it can be removed (which probably won’t actually happen, but it calms me).

There will surely be just as many critics as supporters, but for me, that makes it fitting exactly for those reasons. Man, it’s just easier... with other people.

I just took another look. From the options you mentioned, I would choose the PD450 because of its nice width, and definitely the “lively” variant, which in my opinion will not actually appear very lively or wild when looking at the surface. We have much more character in our floor here, and I find it quite modest.

Congratulations on your decision 😀 😀 😀

Well, the fun is somewhat limited by the sleepless nights.
But I know what you mean! 🙂

I do enjoy the individual processes, but I keep telling myself that it’s better to relax and not overthink the details. Kind of like what @nordanney said—that in the end, it’s all the same... “Wood is wood,” period. Whether from one source or another, a little lighter or darker, more lively or more harmonious... The more relaxed you approach things beforehand, the more satisfied you’re likely to be later.

Ultimately, though, we’re all here to share thoughts and try to achieve the best possible outcome. So thanks again for the support!
