Hello everyone,

Due to our upcoming baby, we need to install a door.
We initially considered a sliding door that would sit flush against the left wall. However, we've been told that such a door doesn’t exist.
Do you have any ideas for a cost-effective solution?

The opening is 94 cm (37 inches) wide and 196 cm (77 inches) high. Unfortunately, there is a gap at the bottom because of the staircase. I would like to drill into the wall above the opening at a height of around 223 cm ± 5 cm (88 ± 2 inches) if necessary, as the metal detector goes off below there (probably a beam).

We’re a bit unsure how to proceed.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Left wall based on this picture?

Hallway with wall pattern made of tree branches on the right, pastel-gold tassel garlands above the door arch, wooden floor.

The tricky point will definitely be the orange dot.. the door will likely hover above the step.

Bedroom and study room.. how often will they be used for sleeping and by whom? And is the door mainly intended for soundproofing?

Maybe extend the upper floor slightly so that a standard door can seal properly at the bottom? The stair treads would no longer be uniform, but the seal would be tight. Add some drywall on the left and right sides to fit an 86cm (34 inch) door frame.

Yes, starting from the left wall in the picture. It will become the master bedroom. The children have their rooms in the attic. Apart from noise from the cats, there should be no other disturbances.
Initially, the newborn will also stay in the room, but later will move to the attic.

Sure, why not. You just need to check how far the track has to extend above. You could make a hole in the wall at the top, so the sliding door could reach all the way to the wall.

Grey ceiling trim with hanging cable

In terms of sound insulation, it will work about as well as a fabric curtain.

The description states that the door can slide all the way to the end of the track.
I don't think sound insulation is that important.

In terms of sound insulation, it will perform about the same as a fabric curtain.

Of course, it’s possible. We have a soft-close sliding door that closes flush with the wall. The track is open at the front ends. I’ll take a photo for you when I get the chance. I believe the manufacturer was I n o v a – Liberty model. I’d have to check.

But I would recommend extending the step first. I think it would bother me more to see a gap there when the door is closed.
