In 2004, I had the flat roof of my bungalow (built in 1980, timber frame cold roof construction, covered with roofing felt) replaced. The cost for approximately 200 m² (2,150 sq ft) of roof area was about €6,700.
Since I still need to inspect it every year, I am now considering, for the next scheduled renovation, having a pitched roof or hipped roof structure built with standard roof tiles instead. This is definitely not for additional living space but solely concerning the type of roof covering.
Of course, this would require a building permit (planning permission) and so on, which should not be an issue these days. A structural engineer will certainly be needed as well. Above all, drainage would have to be addressed, as there are currently two waste pipes running in the middle of the flat roof.
Does anyone have experience with this?
Would this provide any additional energy efficiency benefits?
What costs can I expect roughly?
Are there other alternatives that might make more sense?
Thanks in advance!

Best regards from Munich 🙂
Cost estimates are always difficult, but you can definitely apply for subsidies through KfW! We did that during our home renovation and also consulted an energy advisor, because without one you cannot apply for the funding. Just take a look around and better reach out to a professional—that will save you money in the long run! I can recommend Eveecon; they have a large network of advisors.
